Overview

Create interactive charts and graphs directly in your notes using simple code blocks. Bar, line, pie, radar, and more: powered by Chart.js and integrates with Dataview. It is useful when small datasets stored in notes need a visual chart next to the supporting explanation. The practical value is a repeatable workflow that remains visible in ordinary Markdown or Obsidian's own interface, rather than an isolated feature added without a plan.

How to Install Charts

  1. 1Open Obsidian Settings, select Community plugins, and confirm Restricted mode is disabled.
  2. 2Search the community catalog for Charts, install it, and enable it.
  3. 3Open the plugin settings and review its defaults before using it on existing notes.
  4. 4Test the workflow in a copied note or disposable vault, then inspect the resulting files.

How to Use Charts

Start with a short inline dataset, render one chart type, label the axes and units, and verify that the chart still communicates its meaning in the active theme.

When Charts Helps

It is useful when small datasets stored in notes need a visual chart next to the supporting explanation.

A Safe First Workflow

Start with a short inline dataset, render one chart type, label the axes and units, and verify that the chart still communicates its meaning in the active theme.

Limits and Checks

  • Charts can hide missing context or misleading scales. Keep source values visible or linked and use a dedicated analysis tool for complex statistics.
  • Keep a recoverable vault backup before enabling automation or bulk changes.
