Overview

Add commands to every part of the Obsidian UI: title bar, status bar, sidebar, context menus, and more. Fully customizable toolbar and macro system. It is useful when frequently used commands should be reachable from a toolbar, ribbon, status area, or menu. The practical value is a repeatable workflow that remains visible in ordinary Markdown or Obsidian's own interface, rather than an isolated feature added without a plan.

How to Install Commander

  1. 1Open Obsidian Settings, select Community plugins, and confirm Restricted mode is disabled.
  2. 2Search the community catalog for Commander, install it, and enable it.
  3. 3Open the plugin settings and review its defaults before using it on existing notes.
  4. 4Test the workflow in a copied note or disposable vault, then inspect the resulting files.

How to Use Commander

Add one command to a visible interface area, confirm it works in the intended context, and group only the actions used often enough to justify permanent screen space.

When Commander Helps

It is useful when frequently used commands should be reachable from a toolbar, ribbon, status area, or menu.

A Safe First Workflow

Add one command to a visible interface area, confirm it works in the intended context, and group only the actions used often enough to justify permanent screen space.

Limits and Checks

  • Overloading every interface area makes commands harder to find. Some commands are context-sensitive and may be unavailable in particular views.
  • Keep a recoverable vault backup before enabling automation or bulk changes.
